MELBOURNE, July 7th, 2006 - In the wake of a nomination for Best Original Score at this year's
Helpmann Awards, the Drowsy Drivers have apparently vowed not to follow
the destructive
publicity pattern of death threats and misinformation that they usually
execute.
"No, no, no. We're flattered, of course, to be nominated," said frontman Mike
McLeish, with no trace of a smirk, "and we wish our fellow nominees the
best of luck on the night. Well done, everyone!"

Adelaide Cabaret Festival Recap |
|
|
|
|
Saturday, 24 June 2006 00:00 |
Well, we weren't sure what to expect from the Adelaide Cabaret Festival,
but we'll tell you this much: it's a cracker of an event. Beautifully
curated by Ms Julia Holt, wond'rously staffed by many dudes and
dudettes, AdCab went off like a frog in a sock, and the Drowsies had a
thoroughly enjoyable time of it. We came, we saw, we played, we danced,
we swept up afterwards... except we didn't sweep up afterwards.

Green Room: Greed Is Good |
|
|
|

Thursday, 25 May 2006 01:17 |
MELBOURNE, May 25, 2006 - Months of intimidation and fear-based campaigning came to
fruition for the Drowsy Drivers last month, when they won a 2005 Green
Room Award for Best Original Music (Cabaret).
Curiously, the band won in the very category for which they had
explicitly outlined plans to kill all competition. "It's amazing how
things work out sometimes," said singer Mike McLeish with a wry grin.
"If there's a message that the kids can take from this, it's that
brandishing a high-powered sniper rifle can do wonders for your social
status."
The one note of resistance came from singer, performer and noted
plagiarist Tim Minchin, who expressed his anger by wearing a T-shirt
that read "Tim And His Many Friends Say: Crash And Burn, Drowsy Driver
Scum". On the day, however, it was Minchin himself who came a cropper,
and he walked away with nothing but his delightful partner, his Perrier
Best Newcomer Award, his sold-out Hi-Fi Bar shows and his burgeoning
international career to console him.
"Yeah, we really showed him," boasted guitarist Justin Ludowyk. "It'll
be a long, long time before he crosses paths with the Drowsy Drivers
again." - [ ]

The Drowsy Drivers are happy - nay, 'stoked' - to announce a two-week
season of KEATING! as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. If you're
in the area, or if you know someone in the area, or, hell, if you want
to scoot over there for a weekend or more (well worth it - it's a great
festival), then keep us in mind, won't you?
And it's a momentous occasion for more than one reason: this is the
last appearance of Justin Ludowyk as part of the show. There are
further interstate Drowsy KEATING! shows coming up (we hope and believe
- Top End, stay tuned!), but Juz has put off his glorious overseas
jaunt for long enough, and he will move from Adelaide directly to China
and Pakistan and other weird and wonderful destinations. Come wish him
bon voyage!
Tickets for Adelaide are available here.
Tickets for China and Pakistan are available here, here and here.

Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:07 |
MELBOURNE, February 21, 2006 - The Drowsy Drivers today announced their
intention to “eliminate the competition” from this year’s Green Room
Awards. “Last time we were too soft-core,” said drummer Kevin McFerran, referring to the band’s 2002 nominations for Northcote Country Soul.
“We blinked, and we lost out. We’re not going to make the same mistake
this time around – we want all the gongs. And if we have to kill all
the other nominees to do it, then I guess that’s what we do.”
